In recent years, particular attention has been paid to nursing studentsââ?¬â?¢ therapeutic communication (TC) with patients, due to a\nstrong emphasis on patient-centered education in the Iranian healthcare reform. However, various studies have highlighted the poor\ncommunication of future nurses. Therefore, researchers have used qualitativemethodology to shed light on the antecedents and consequences\nof nursing studentsââ?¬â?¢ TC and promote it.We carried out a conventional content analysis using semistructured interviews\nwith a purposefully selected sample of 18 participants, including nursing instructors, students, and patients in hospitals affiliated to\nTehranUniversity ofMedical Sciences. ââ?¬Å?Communication readiness,ââ?¬Â ââ?¬Å?predisposing factors,ââ?¬Â and ââ?¬Å?continuity of careââ?¬Âwere identified\nas the three major themes. ââ?¬Å?Communication readinessââ?¬Â consisted of ââ?¬Å?physical readiness,ââ?¬Â ââ?¬Å?academic readiness,ââ?¬Â and ââ?¬Å?developmental\nreadiness.ââ?¬Â ââ?¬Å?Predisposing factorsââ?¬Â included ââ?¬Å?contextual factorsââ?¬Â and ââ?¬Å?educational condition.ââ?¬Â ââ?¬Å?Continuity of careââ?¬Â included ââ?¬Å?patient\nsatisfactionââ?¬Â and ââ?¬Å?improving nursing studentââ?¬â?¢s motivation to communicate with patients.ââ?¬Â ââ?¬Å?Communication readinessââ?¬Â and\nââ?¬Å?predisposing factorsââ?¬Â constitute the antecedents of nursing studentââ?¬â?¢s TC with patients, and ââ?¬Å?continuity of careââ?¬Â is considered as its\nconsequence. More attention needs to be paid by the regulators to TC instruction in both theoretical and clinical educational curriculum.\nFurthermore, all nursesmust be informed about the importance of TC in promoting patient outcomes and quality of care.
